Angelica decursiva - Chinese angelica (seeds)
Angelica decursiva is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Apiaceae family, native to the temperate regions of China. It forms upright, branched stems with pinnate leaves and distinctive white umbellate flowers that appear in late summer. It usually grows to a height of between 80 and 150 cm and prefers sunny to semi-shaded locations with humus-rich, well-drained soil.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the root (Angelicae decursivae radix) is traditionally used for colds and to support blood circulation. The plant is considered moderately hardy; young plants in particular should be protected in colder regions.
Sowing is best done as a cold-germinator: pre-germinate seeds in autumn or after cold treatment to achieve good germination. With its imposing growth habit, decorative umbels and traditional TCM significance, Angelica decursiva is an interesting and valuable addition to herb and medicinal plant gardens.
An important plant in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
