Polygonatum sibiricum - Siberian Solomon's Seal (seed)

also known as Siberian claret, joint root or, very cute, "little bells under the roof".

A plant from the lily family that tolerates extreme weather conditions. It is hardy to USDA zone 3 - that is, to minus 39.9 degrees Celsius (-39.8 °F)!!

Their flowers are visually not dissimilar to snowdrops or to the multi-flowered salamon seals, which we often cultivate as garden perennials.

This is another polygonatum valued in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Here, too, the focus is on the rootstock, which is said to have many healing properties.

Polygonatum, also known as Solomon's seal, is also known and valued in traditional European medicine. Ointments and tinctures have various uses such as B. against rheumatism or bruises. With a list price of up to €500 per kilogram of ointment, growing it yourself is all the more worthwhile!

Polygonatum sibiricum contains oleic acid amides (0.10 mg/g extract) and glyceryl monolinoleates (0.17 mg/g extract), which are recognized as sleep-promoting substances. According to some studies, these seem to have a significant effect. Like some sedatives, oleic acid amide interacts at the GABAA receptor and appears to cause the sleep-inducing effect. It is also very interesting that like components of the cannabis plant  it interacts directly with the cannabinoid receptor 1 and can apparently also cause cannabis-like effects. Perhaps that is why it is said to have an aphrodisiac effect in traditional European medicine.

In addition to all this, it is also a very pretty plant that likes partial shade. It can also be placed under fruit trees in almost full shade. The soil at its location should not dry out

The black berries that ripen in the fall are poisonous!

The germination rate, tested by us, is 85 percent.

Please note the sowing instructions!

Have fun gardening!
