Ribes sanguineum “King Edward VII”, an ornamental redcurrant with edible fruit
The shrubs grow up to 3 m tall and just as wide.
The flowers open in April and are pink to red.
The berries are black and frosted, about 1 cm in size, and have a mealy, tart flavour.
These are truly special berries; if you don’t fancy them, you’re doing the birds a world of good.
A feast for the eyes in spring when in bloom, and in autumn too – when the leaves turn dark red.
