Saposhnikovia divaricata – Fang Feng (Seeds)
Saposhnikovia divaricata is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Apiaceae family (umbellifers) and is native to the steppe and mountainous regions of north-eastern and northern China. It produces finely pinnate, delicate leaves and upright inflorescences with white, loose umbels. It prefers sunny locations with well-drained, fairly dry soil.In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the root (Saposhnikoviae radix, ‘Fang Feng’) is traditionally used for those prone to colds and as a balancing component in herbal mixtures. The species is considered moderately frost-tolerant and should be given light winter protection in harsh locations or for young plants.
With its delicate, almost filigree growth habit and robust nature, Saposhnikovia divaricata is also well suited to herb beds, naturalistic plantings or as a structuring companion plant in sunny areas.
An important plant in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
